Introduction

Set Invest Now is a platform that provides financial information about Thailand's stock exchange to those who are interested in or want to learn about the property market.

My Role

I started the project by understanding the user, redesigning the new website to provide a better experience, doing usability testing, and developing this project from end to end. Throughout the project, I worked with four of my college friends.

Problem

Many students want to try investing, but they still lack knowledge about the stock market. They also found that some sources to learn are difficult to read and understand with a lot of technical vocabulary, etc. As a result, some students gave up, did not dare to begin studying the stock market, and did not dare to invest.

Goals

- The platform was created to be more user-friendly and simpler for students to understand.

- Students dare to learn and invest more in the stock market.

- Students gain more knowledge about the stock market.

Early Ideation

To begin, we create an As-Is Journey Map to simulate the user's process of using the website, the problems encountered, and their feelings in order to determine the most effective and useful interview questions for web development. We represent ourselves as users in this step.

After we have brainstormed questions, we have selected the appropriate questions. Putting them into categories makes it easier for us to prepare for the next user interview.

Following that, we conducted interviews with five students from different faculties and financial literacy backgrounds. Interviews are one-on-one. And here are the interview results.

We created two personas from the compilation: "people without investing knowledge" and "people with sufficient knowledge but still lack the courage to invest." We decide on the first persona to cover as many users as possible.

We generate real user paths from selected personal data, which is people with no financial knowledge. The user's activity path consists of being interested in investing, looking for information, and deciding to invest. There are feelings, touchpoints, ideas, and opportunities that arise during activities along that route.

We also make an empathy map to better understand what users say, think, do, and feel in order to design a system that best meets their needs.

Usability Testing
Objectives of the test

- to determine whether or not users can accurately and completely find information about investments in the Stock Exchange of Thailand (IPO) from the website www.setinvestnow.com.

- to see if there are any issues that users have using this website.

Test Particiants

There are five students, both male and female, from different faculties, including the faculties of arts, law, education, and engineering, who are interested in stock market investing but lack much knowledge.

Characteristics of the test participants

Test Scenario

You require information for your class presentation on stock market investing. As a result, you should begin reading the website's investment information at www.setinvestnow.com.

Then, we asked the user to complete the following tasks in a set amount of time for usability testing. We test it by looking at the user's journey from initiation to completion of that activity.

The task in the image above was created to test the user's system usage. It took 45 minutes to complete all of the tasks.

Observational results of the test subject's behavior

This is the amount of time each participant takes to complete the task. The yellow box represents the participant who failed
to complete the task, giving up. The participant must be given a hint to be able to complete the task.

Problems encountered during testing

Task 1: You want to know what an investment is and how you can find one.

Overall problems encountered

- unclear language
- lack of basic information required for newcomers to understand clearly.

Match between the system and the real world Failure of Usabillity Heuristic

Solution

- change the definition of the new website to be clearer and easier to understand.

Unclear Language

Lack of basic information

Task 2: You want to give your classmates some guidance on how to start investing. How do you find that information?

Overall problems encountered

- The relationship between internal content and category is not related.
- It is not designed to allow users to remember where they are now.

Mapping Failure of Usabillity Heuristic

Recognition rather than recall failure of Usabillity Heuristic

Solution

- change the title of some articles to be easier to understand
- design articles to show that users have read this section, such as by adjusting the color of the already-read topics to fade. etc.

The title of the topic is inconsistent with the article.

Not being able to recall which articles have been read.

Task 3: You want to send an investment risk assessment to a friend to try; how do you find one?

Overall problems encountered

- The content contradicts the address topic.

- Inconsistent word usage on the same webpage, with some English and some Thai.

- The required information was not found during the search.

- The webpage found broken links that can't be viewed.

Consistency and Standard Failure of Usabillity Heuristic

Help and Documentation Failure of Usabillity Heuristic

Solution

- Control the use of language in the same way.
- Name the new topic according to the content inside.

The broken link shows an incorrect webpage.

Inconsistent word usage on the same webpage

Task 4: You want to know the factors for buying IPO stocks, how can you find that information?

Overall problems encountered

- No design to allow the user to revert to a previous state, cancel an order, or redo it.

- There is no relationship between the attributes of objects and the abilities of the users, which makes the user unable to predict what can be done with that item.

- The information is quite deep. It needs to be found using a search engine.

User Control and Freedom Failure of Usabillity Heuristic

Affordance Failure of Usabillity Heuristic

Solution

- Allows users to return to the previous status, undo, and redo actions.
- Designed with a familiar structure that enables users to anticipate which page they will click on.

Can't press back, so it leaves the user with no freedom to use it fully.

Can't guess if the link to press will be an article to read or a ‘#’
to find the article again.

Task 5: You want to know the factors for buying IPO stocks; how can you find that information?

Overall problems encountered

- English is used, but other content on the web is in Thai. All Thai language should be used in order to be consistent throughout the website.

- The internal content is inconsistent with the topic.

Solution

- Control the use of language in the same way.
- Name the new topic according to the content inside.

User Feedback

In addition to each task data, we collect other user feedback to improve the system to meet more user needs.

Information Architecture

We also let users sort topics that should be on the website by importance and by categories they are familiar with.
